Past News
The GASP executive is pleased to announce that after years of effort, the Calgary Girls All-Star Softball Association (GASP) has received confirmation from Alberta Gaming that our Casino application has been approved, and we are now awaiting a date for our first Casino. This is exciting news as it will allow GASP to begin providing additional benefits to our members and to all fast-pitch softball players in our community.
CONGRATULATIONS GASP!! Many thanks to all past and present members for helping us realize this goal!**
Girls Allstar Softball Program Background
The All-Star Girls Fastpitch Association operating, as the Calgary Girls All-Star Softball Program (GASP) is a registered society that is dedicated to Calgary and area girls looking to play at the highest level of competition in the sport in Alberta. We offer a community based, non-profit program that is governed by a Board of Directors formed from members of the GASP program according to the GASP by-laws.
GASP began in 1994, formerly the “Girls Quadrant Program”, to provide competitive Fastpitch softball to Calgary girls 12 to 18 years old and coaches who excel in the CMSA community program and to develop teams capable of competing at the Provincial “A” or National level.
COACHING STAFF
All GASP coaches are required to have a Level 2 NCCP certification. GASP prides itself in coach development and ensures that our experienced coaching staff is available to apprentice new coaches entering into the program. GASP is proud of its coaching contingent. Program coaches have been involved with Provincial and National championships and are often requested to give coaching and player clinics.
COMMITMENT
Girls who excel at softball and earn a spot on a team will enjoy a fun and competitive program that is committed to developing its players and coaches from Peewee to Midgets. GASP keeps teams informed of rule changes, tournament opportunities, sources for practice locations and anything else that will make our teams and program better. Our organization is made up of dedicated volunteers who demand the best for their teams. GASP requires teams to follow a protocol for player selection, team finances and professional conduct on and off the field.
VISION
1. To be the recognized leader in player, coach and team development.
2. To provide opportunities for all players to progress and gain life skills, self-esteem and to continue to contribute to the sport on a life long basis.
3. To produce a growing number of players who excel in the game.
4. To provide education and development within the program as well as in the communities and sports associations.
5. To conduct affairs with fairness, integrity and equal opportunity.
BENEFITS
GASP is committed to the development of superior female softball players in Calgary who are looking to take advantage of the many opportunities available to them. Playing competitive softball requires a huge commitment from the players, coaches and parents who make up the members of GASP. Their hard work and support is supported in many ways by the program, such as:
Competitive League Play – GASP provides the best league play possible for their teams so they can develop their skills both at “home” and “away”. Our Peewee teams play in the Calgary Minor Softball Association’s Bantam league in their competitive division. The Bantam and Midget teams enjoy the benefits of our relationship with the Calgary Women’s Fastpitch Association. The CWFA offers the best competitive female softball league in the city, with all games played at Calgary’s premier facility, Shouldice Park.
Calgary Classic Tournament – This first class tournament attracts some of the finest PeeWee, Bantam and Midget teams from Western Canada. With its Calgary style hospitality this tournament is establishing an excellent reputation in the softball community. Come and see why it’s called “The Classic”.
GASP Player ID Camps and Evaluations – Every fall GASP provides tryout opportunities for Players aged PeeWee to Midget. Not just an evaluation camp, this weekend serves as a mini-clinic for players wanting to build on their skill levels and see how they compare within their player community.
GASP Membership – Our family of teams take pride in their association with GASP. Players, Coaches and Parents are required to sign a Code of Conduct that promotes and commits to the vision of GASP. Program teams have enjoyed newspaper and television media coverage promoting the sport and GASP initiatives. Networking with other coaches and members of the softball community affords Coaches, Players and Parents the opportunity to source all the benefits a competitive sport has to offer.
